The large bowl and the three matching small bowls are in excellent condition. They have NO signs of wear, no marks, scratches, nicks, cracks or repairs of any kind.

The smaller of the two plates is also in excellent condition.

The larger of the two plates has a chip and a crack on the rim near two painted cherries. See photos.

Description:

The large bowl is 9 inches in diameterand 2 ½ inches high. The whole surface is painted and the open field is a verypale rose and light green. The back ofthe bowl is painted a pinky-peach color. The bowl has a painted gold rim. Thebowl is marked with the green symbol containing the letters “P.L. and A.A.” forthe Schonwald Company with the word “BAVARIA” below the symbol. It is signed “G.Abel” on the back.

The three matching small bowls are 51/8 inches in diameter and 1 ¼ inches high. They have the gooseberry and leafdesign painted around one side of each bowl and the open field is whiteunpainted porcelain with a clear glaze. These bowls look like they were paintedwith the same paint strokes as the large bowl but it is curious that the small bowlshave an unpainted open field. Two of these small bowls are marked with thegreen symbol containing the letters “P.L. and A.A.” for the Schonwald Company withthe word “BAVARIA” below the symbol. They are not signed.

The two plates are 5 3/8 and 5 13/16in diameter. The smaller plate has a pinky-peach colored border, very similarto the color on the back of the large bowl, and the leaves and gooseberrieshave the same delicately painted features as the large bowl. The back of thisplate is not marked.

The larger of the two platesfeatures cherries and leaves against a very pale yellow and light bluebackground. It is stamped on the back with the green symbol containing theletters “P.L. and A.A.” for the Schonwald Company with the word “BAVARIA”, and this plate is signed on the front “G. Abel”just like the large bowl that has the same signature on the back.

These are the prettiest hand paintedbowls I have ever seen. The painting is subtle and delicate and the overalleffect is wonderful.
