Conditions: Fine colors and impression . Light toning and slight soiling, as is common in these Kuchi-e pieces. The print is folded vertically (now flattened) as are all kuchi-e prints (because of their use), so this is not a negative. The work is a Kuchi-e print by Kiyokata. He was an important woodblock printmaker of the Meiji Period. Hiskuchi-e prins is very rare.He was the disciple of Yoshitoshi and Toshikata. We can feel the influence of the tradition in the print. Kuchi-e are woodblock-printed frontispiece illustrations produced for publication in Japanese novels and literary magazines at the turn-of-the-century (1895-1912).
