VERY RARE 6/1/1865 - President Andrew Johnson HAND SIGNED Military Appointment:

VERY RARE Presidential Military Appointment dated - June 1st, 1865 by President Andrew Johnson - hand signed in brown ink literally 47 days after assuming the Presidency upon the sudden and tragic assassination of President Abraham Lincoln.

Document measures approximately 19\" x 16\" in size on vellum and in very good shape as well (looks far nicer than what my iPhone photographs) . Signature is in brown ink by Andrew Johnson. Blue Dept. of War Seal is intact as seen and the document also bears Edwin Stanton (Lincolns Secretary of War) stamped signature as Secretary of War...

... it was Edwin Stanton who at about 7:22 am that very morning proclaimed that \"...he (Lincoln) now belongs to the ages\" after Lincolns last heartbeat on April 15th, 1865... it was also Edwin Stanton that refused to be removed from Office after a fallout from with the new President Johnson which lead to the First Impeachment of a US President and one that lead to President Johnson being acquitted in the U.S. Senate by one mere vote ! The law that Congress used to impeach President Johnson was later deemed unconstitutional (you can read more about that whole ordeal and his Impeachment over firing Stanton on the internet)...

Its a well documented fact that only a few months into President Johnson\'s Presidency that he suffered an injury to his right arm and hand that made signing documents painful so a special \"steel stamp\" was used to stamp nearly all of President Johnson\'s Military appointments and Presidential documents !
