Bjorn Wiinblad was born 20 September 1918. This Danish painter, designer and artist worked in ceramics, silver, bronze, textiles, and graphics.
He was attached to the United States Embassy in Paris in 1947 as a poster designer.
His most sought after work was for Nymolle, a Danish pottery.This featured whimsical faced people, dressed in bizarre costume, sometimeswith natural elements: twining vines, floral wreaths, and trees., Much of it consisted of hand made figures, candlesticks, and jars and
vases with faces, often limited to blue hand painted detail. Pieces in this style may date from the 60s, 70s or 80s.
From 1971 he designed an annual commemorative Christmas plate for Rosenthal.
His poster work illustrated many activities in Denmark, as well as the Olympic Games for the Handicapped at Seoul, the New World Symphony Orchestra in Miami, and the Royal Danish Ballet, all in 1988.
His later work for Rosenthal was often colour saturated and sometimes almost psychedelic, and a supplemented gold or silver colours. His most popular dinnerware design, Romance (Romanze) typically had an incredibly detailed decoration.
Wiinblad illustrated the work of his fellow Dane, Hans Christian Andersen. His \"swineherd\" illustrations were turned into a short animated
