Vintage Tie Clip Mexican Sterling Rafael Melendez 980 Silver 1940s Taxco Mexico Money Clip William Spratling Design Vintage Mens Accessories

Old Mexican silver tie clip is about circa 1940s. Crafted by Rafael Melendez, a silversmith who worked with William Spratling before venturing on his own. The design of the clip is reflective of classic Spratling and this may be a Spratling design. Silver purity of 980 (98%) is better than sterling and was common in older Mexican pieces and often used by Melendez.

SIZE: 1.75\" x 1\" -- 44 x 25mm.
WEIGHT: 9 grams
HALLMARKS: 980; Taxco; RM Melendez signature. These hallmarks are identical to those pictured in Billie Hougart’s “The Little Book of Mexican Silver Trade and Hallmarks”, on pg 119. This book is a highly regarded reference for those interested in antique & fine Mexican jewelry. Most of the Mexican silversmiths of any importance are documented in this book.
CONDITION: Good vintage condition. Silver could use a cleaning mostly on the back but it\'s in good shape. Tarnish looks worse in photos than in person.
