FOR SALE is this rare leather bound book by George Tucker titled \"A CARNEGIE HERO FOREST W. McNEIR\" published by the BRENHAM DAILY PRESS PRINT 1913. The book has a handwritten inscription that reads \"Presented to Mr. F.C. Dunn Sr. By his friend Forest W. McNeir May 15-1913. Inside there is an actual real 5 x 7 inch photograph of Mr. McNeir pasted to a page and underneath is a notation written in ink and signed and dated by Andrew Carnegie. It reads: \"The soldier of civilization who serves n saves his fellows. The true hero. God bless him. Andrew Carnegie April 29,1913\". Also included are two mounted photos of front and back of the hero medals.

The book measures about 10 1/4\" x 7 1/4\" and is 3/4\" thick. It has applied plaid fabric fly leaf pages and the pages all have gold leaf edges. There are 83 printed pages plus additional unprinted pages. The book is pretty much a compilation of all the letters written by various people to the Andrew Carnegie Foundation on Mr. McNeir\'s behalf telling why he should be awarded the Foundation\'s Gold Hero Medal. A copy of this book is displayed in the lobby of The Carnegie Hero Fund Commission in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania sans signature.

The Carnegie Hero Medal is awarded to civilians who risk their lives to an extraordinary degree saving or attempting to save the lives of others. Andrew Carnegie started these awards in 1904. Early medals were struck in bronze, silver, and gold and awarded according to the assessment of the heroic act being recognized. Gold medals were discontinued in 1923 so there have only been 19 gold medals awarded. Mr. McNeir was the recipient of one of these gold medals for his acts of bravery, in particular, his saving the life of a fireman stuck on a ladder fighting a fire in downtown Houston in 1910.

Mr. McNeir also was a professional trap shooter and in 1920 was a member of the gold medal winning US trapshooting team at the Olympics. He was inducted into the ATA TRAPSHOOTIG HALL OF FAME in 1981.

This book is a great piece of history on a very interesting man. Andrew Carnegie\'s signature alone is worth at least $1000. Check it out on the internet.

IF YOU WANT THIS PIECE, I SUGGEST THAT YOU offer EARLY AS I MAY END THE sale IF THE COUNTER NEARS 50 AND THERE ARE NO offerS!!! So don\'t wait to offer. So often buyers are disappointed when they get \"locked out\" of an sale before it closed because was sluggish or power went down due to system overload or a virus, especially at peak times, OR they even just got SNIPED! There is a way to preventthis from happening to you! The best prevention is to let the computer do your offerding! When you offer on an item, rather than placing the minimum offer, place a offer that represents the highest amount you\'re willing to pay for thatitem. The computer will take over from there and automatically place counteroffers in your name, AND ONLY upto the amount you specified in your offer. This is called \"proxy offerding\" and is a great feature of sales. It helps prevent buyer\'s remorse and assures you of being the winning buyer if there is a tie offer since the earliest offer wins. I do this myself when I am offerding on items on .
