Look at this historical treasure I get to have in my possession for a while. This is a beautiful Navajo transitional era rug circa 1880-1900. It is a bold cross pattern with 3 traditional colors such as red, black/brown, and natural ivory. It is in fantastic overall condition for its age and lies very flat. There are a few small repairs very well executed and a few small breaks in the weave upon close inspection (easily repairable) though there are no obvious holes. Very minor scattered stains. Side selvege cords are great shape. Corner tassels are all present except for one corner. Blanket is sturdy and amazing. There is a strong mothball odor but they definitely did the job as I was unable to locate any moth damage whatsoever. I believe it to be hand carded/spun and hand dyed wool. Though not easy to see in the images, the colors are variegated with the black border being \"streaked\" with dark brown. Colors are still bright and vibrant and lazy lines are present. What else can I say other than Native American weavings are a true work of art. They exhibit talent, creativity, diligence, and a time when hard work could be passed down through a blanket for generations to come. Transitionals are becoming increasingly difficult to find so I have to admit, this is a hard sell for me...especially this pattern in particular. Don\'t wait until the last minute to put in your highest offer! Items such as these are popular with snipers so if you have your heart set on this rug offer your max and watch it closely. I have set a reserve on this rug because of this so please don\'t let the *reserve* prohibit you from offerding...though the value is much greater, it is just the minimum price that will make me feel okay about parting with it. These weavings are truly a treasure. Whether you hang it on a wall, rest your bare feet on it, or bring it out of lock and key to admire on occasion, you will feel the significance of this Native American tradition.
