Offered here is a vintage original 8x10 in. US single-weight glossy keybook photograph from the classic 1940\'s comedy/drama Tobacco ROAD, released in 1941 by 20th Century-Fox and directed by the legendary John Ford. Shiftless Jeeter Lester (Charley Grapewin) and his family of hillbilly stereotypes live in a rural backwater where their ancestors were once wealthy planters. Their slapstick existence is threatened by a bank\'s plans to take over the land for more profitable farming. Subplots involve the affairs and marriages of son Dude (William Tracy) and daughter Ellie May (Gene Tierney).
The image features a beautifully atmospheric exterior nighttime shot of beautiful young Ellie May (Gene Tierney),seated in a corner of an open wooden structure as she looks thoughtful and, judging by her very slight smile, hopeful. The lighting is especially effective and creates a beautiful image of a beautiful Hollywood star. Printed on single-weight stock with a glossy finish, this vintage original keybook photograph is in very fine- condition with a two-hole punch across the top in the image area and very light signs in the bottom border where someone had written on top of the photograph. There are no pinholes, tears, stains, or other flaws and the image quality is razor-sharp with fine detail and beautiful rich contrast.
Actress Alice Faye was the first choice to play the title role, which eventually went to Barbara Stanwyck; however, Tierney was a last-minute replacement when Stanwyck became unavailable shortly before filming began.
