Patriotic Mascot
What a delightful and truly American, antique (cold cast) composition doll! \"Maiden America\" is 8\" tall, with cupie-like, winsomeexpression, and large, side-glancing (googly) blue eyes, rosy cheeks and closed mouth, tiny eyebrows that match her auburn painted hair that is molded into a topknot atop her head. Her legs are molded together to stand and her arms are jointed at the shoulders. She has the full, square paper label still firmly attached to the base of her feet: DES. PAT./8-24-15/©1915/Kate Silverman. She was designed in 1915 as a symbol of American patriotism and chosen to be given as a promotional enticement with sale of bonds. (copy of this information can be supplied, if requested with purchase) She wears an antique, burgundy red and black velveteen, commercially made, majorette dress and is in fair to good overall condition. The few dolls we have ever seen wore only a red/white and blue ribbon. She has craze lines in her hair and back and her arms look to be repainted (her arms may have been replaced long ago and may not be correct although they fit her perfectly). She has no other problems or defects and no chips or other repairs (side of foot has sloppy modeling) and no odors as she is from a smoke free home.
