Our papyrus paper is made from the inner stem of the finest Cyperus Papyrus plant, all handmade in Egypt. Our suppliers responsibly grow their own plants, then use the stems to make the thin strips which form the final papyrus sheet. The sheets are formed by arranging the strips side by side in two cross layers, then soaking them in water for certain time. The sheets are then hammered to squeeze out the remaining water, dried, then polished and cut to size. The result is an exquisite natural cotton like, yet slightly textured handmade paper like you’ve never seen before. The process of manufacturing papyrus paper is a green eco friendly process that goes back thousands and thousands of years ago. All the steps are handmade, and the papyrus gets its unique neutral color naturally from soaking into water. The more the sheets are soaked the darker they become.
