The Ohio ClockWalnut
Senator David Daggett ordered the clock from Thomas Voigt in 1815. Starting in 1817 this clock stood in the old Senate chamber. Since 1859 it has held its current post outside the chamber’s south door. No one knows why it is called the “Ohio” clock since it was made in Philadelphia. One theory is that it commemorates Ohio becoming the 17th state because the case’s shell has 17 stars.
