1/8 PLATE TINTYPE - EXTREMELY RARE 1850\'S WAX OVER PAPIER MACHE DOLL W/ GLASS EYES - The cased tintype you are viewing is extremely rare on so many levels and here is why. First, the tintype is contained inside a rare eighth plate, paper over wood case. Second, nearly all still life images found on a tintype from the 19th century are considered very rare, let alone a still life of a single doll from the 1830\'s to 1850\'s. Third, the type of doll itself is a highly rare and desirable by many doll collectors. A French Wax over Papier Mache doll with glass eyes and real hair can easily run $500 - $1200 dollars today. Note the photographer even hand tinted the cheeks on the doll in a similar manner as portraits of people during the same time period. You know this doll must have meant something very special to the owner, especially if they took the time and went to the expense of having the doll photographed. I offer this incredible cased tintype to the market for the very first time from my personal collection. I am confident the next owner, whether they collect antique photography or antique dolls will cherish this image for many years to come. Good luck to all my costumers on this fine quality item.

CONDITION: Please view my detailed scan for the actual condition of the image and as part of my description. The plate has very nice contrast, tonal range, hand tinting with the main focus on the glass eyes of the doll. The rare 1/8 plate case has an older well done hinge repair, a pretty gold velvet pillow and a single working clasp. Super rare subject matter make this tintype a collectors dream.

NOTE: To all collectors of antique dolls and 19th Century photography, I will be having an exhibition of a 145 tintypes, ambrotypes and daguerreotypes from my collection containing children with their toys and dolls at the National Museum of Toys and Miniatures in Kansas City. The show opens on October 8, 2016 and runs through the end of January 2017. Please feel free to attend the show.
