One leaf of an Ottoman Turkishmanuscript that has a beautiful rectangular border of glimmering goldink that surrounds the main text, along with a commentary text writtendiagonally outside the main text and this commentary is surrounded by a thinred ink line. I do not know the Turkish language, but an OttomanTurkish scholar had identified the central text inside the gold rectangleas Serh-i Vasiyetname-i Birgivi, which was written by AliSadri Konevi. The text in the center is a catechism or testament(Vasiyetname) on the doctrines and teachings of Islam, which wasoriginally written in the 16th century. The Vasiyetname wasan extremely wide-read book, that basically teaches all the do\'s and don\'ts ofpious practice. The commentary outside the gold rectangle was written byErmenaki Omer b. Abdurrahman b. Omer. The Ottoman Turkish scholar datesthis manuscript to the 18th century. This leaf has exquisitecalligraphy. The paper is thick. There are somestains, especially around the edges of the leaf, due to its age and use overthe years. Overall size is about 5 in. x 7 1/2 in.
