The process I do is as follow:

Decals must be applied on a dry paint or surface; I use to paint the machine and wait at least 1 day before applying the decals, if the paint is wet, you will not be able to accommodate the film if it is notset correctly

I trim the decals with sharp scissors, the film is flexible and easy to accommodate and it can be placed or lifted until is set correctly

It is recommended to partially remove the back coverby peeling off one half (½ ) of aninch on an end or corner of the back support of the decal leaving the sticky area ready to be placed

Place the sticky end or corner on the surface and align it with a ruler if necessary and then proceed to remove the rest of the back cover, always leaving 1/2” of an inch with paper on the other end so you can hold it without leaving fingerprints on the sticky film

Once installed correctly apply some pressure to the decal with a round item, if you do not have special tools to do this you may use a spoon

These decals are digitally ink printed and must be clear coated unless you are using them for another purpose other than restoring a sewing machine as to decorate a window or anything else where decals won\'t be rubbed then you mayleave them the way they are

It is highly recommended to apply a thin coat of clear and let it dry for a few minutes depending on how fast your clear coat dries off applying a thick coat of clearcan cause the golden decals to be faded, once the first coatit is dry you can keep applying as many coats as you want until the decals are covered, if after applying3 or 4coats you don\'t get an even finish you may want tosand it down with a 220ora 400 grade metal sand paper that usually comes in a black color sheetand then apply thenecessary coats to leave a smooth and even finish

In the event that a section of the decal gets damaged during the installing process, please contact me as I could send you one of those sections for free, so you don’t have to buy the whole sheet

I use these decals to restore Featherweights with fantastic resultsand howeverI WILL NOT give you any expressed warranty of the results you might getfrom using them.

Water slide decals vs self-sticking decals

The water slide decals are made of just ink and they come printed on a glossy paper sheet, before you install themcut them off as close as possible to the printed area and place them in water for about 30 seconds 1 section at a time, you willsee the printed image start to sliding off the backing paper. This means it is ready to apply, hold the decal carefully to avoid tearing and keep them wet until they are set correctly, once they dry off, you will not be able to make changes, and a clear coat it is mandatory.

Self-sticking decalsare easier to use,theyareDIGITALLY INK printedon a thin vinyl witha sticky surface covered with backing paper, so once the paint of your sewing machine is totally dry, youmay start trimming the decalswith a sharpscissors very close to de printed area and thenremove the backingcoverto place them wherever you want them, due to the thickness of the vinyl, self sticking decals will need a few more coats of clear to cover them and however this will help to protect the paint of your machine.

WHAT TYPE OF CLEAR YOU NEED? Well... it is hard to suggest you an specificbrand of paint or a clear coat as there are several brandsand prices from Town to Town, City to City or State to State,plus it will depend on what type of finish and durability you wantfor your machine, if you want a Vehicle like-finish thenyou needautomotive paint and a high solids polyurethane to protect it,also a good air compressor and a detail or touch up spray gun, some Auto stores sells automotive paint and some others have the equipment to put it in a spray can making it easier for you to apply it.
