ANTIQUE, 1848 HAND COLORED STEEL ENGRAVINGS FROM \"THE COMIC HISTORY OF ROME\"10 SIGNED JOHN LEECH HAND COLORED STEEL ENGRAVINGS-1848John Leech[1817-1864] was a well known Victorian caricaturist and cartoonist. His contributions to Punch and other well known publications and authors, his charm and humor made him of the ten are hand signed [I`m no sure if the signatures are part of the engraving or at a later time]in the bottom border and all have captions under illustrations. I removed these from the book along with the Title Page.I did this for photo reasons and the binding is week and falling apart. I am including the book which has 98 wood block illustrations in the over 300 pages. A restoration is probably possible, but I am no expert. There were three different size editions of this book. 1848/1850/early 1850`s with the 1850 the only one dated. I attribute this book to 1848 because of the matching size to that year. The publisher was Bradbury, Evans & Co. of London. I ran across a set of 8 and another set of 9 available during my research. No idea which book they`re from. I believe captions can be read with ZOOM.Would make a great matted/framed collage with the title page in the size from book. 8 3/8\" x 5 1/4\"untrimmed. Bound side edges are rough and other three sides are very decent. The exception is \"Appius Claudius punished by the People\" which has rougher edges and two tears at top/one tear at bottom. Lightly toned margins. Color does not seem to be faded, although I have nothing to judge against. All came out of the same book, which I am including with the engravings. Please look at pictures.
