We are offering an original vintage 10th United States Cavalry SecondReconnaissanceSquadron solid copper mug or stein presented to Captain James E. Harpstreith, Squadron Surgeon. The aforementioned engraved inscription surrounds an applied colorful enamel insigna featuring a standing buffalo with the caption \"READY AND FORWARD\". The 10th Cavalry Regiment is a unit of the United States Army. Formed as a segregated African-American unit, the 10th Cavalry was one of the original \"Buffalo Soldier\" regiments. It served in combat during the Indian Wars in the western United States, the Spanish–American War in Cuba and in the Philippine–American War. The regiment was trained as a combat unit but later relegated to non-combat duty and served in that capacity in World War II until its deactivation in 1944. This fine and rare example stands 5 1/8\" tall and measures 3 3/4\" across the bottom. No maker\'s mark and age unknown. In very good original overall condition. Appears to have been polished at some point in it\'s history, but has developed a nice, soft patina with a little oxidation at the top. There is a slight dent on the backside of the top rim that could be easily straightened if desired. No other dents or damage. The enamel is intact and with no cracks or loss. Crisp & clean!
