  • The Order of the Eastern Star is a Freemasonry-relatedfraternal organization open to both men and women. It was establishedin 1850 by Boston, Massachusetts lawyer and educator Rob Morris, aformer Freemason official. The order is based on teachings from theBible, but is open to people of all religious beliefs. It hasapproximately 10,000 chapters in twenty countries and approximately500,000 members under its General Grand Chapter.
  • This degree emphasizes the lesson of harmony. ThisDegree is conferred because ancient custom required that a Mason mustbe a Past Master in order to be exalted to the Royal Arch(Gavel-President). In someGrand Jurisdictions this Degree is conferred upon all sitting Mastersof the Blue Lodge. The Degree confers no actual rank upon therecipient, but is exemplified to maintain the ancient custom.
  • The gavel held by the Worshipful Master is not a“common gavel”, but rather a “mallet” used to preside at the meetingsof the Lodge and allows him to conduct its business with decorum andharmony. As the principal officer, the Worshipful Master uses his gavelto represent his authority and position. Through it we are taught torise, sit, and finalize our business during the course of our labors. The many gavels seen at the annual convocations of grand lodge range insize and frequently are more “mauls” than gavels. Their size wouldbetter suit them for “setting” large stones, than governing a meeting, but as symbolic of our Grand Master’s power and office, they areconsidered “gavels”.
  • This is such a beautiful and rare piece that is hardlyever up for sale due to it being a very important family bond. Just anexceptional piece that I\'m proud to say I\'ve owned.
  • Couldn\'t find anything but duplicates made out of 18Kgold plating, which looked too fake and cheap.
  • Circa 1930-1950\'s.
  • Who knows how much something in this condition would go for on Heritage sales, Christies, Doyle\'s , etc.
