Very sweet Kestner Baby Doll known as Hilda\'s Sister. Doll is approximately 16\" and the head is marked Made in Germany H 12 247. Baby has blue glass sleep eyes, good color and a very sweet look.
This is a character doll which is not as commonly found as a dolly face Kestner doll, and is said to be somewhat rare. Baby has an open mouth with two teeth. Plump checks with cute little dimples and double chin.
This very old, antique doll is being sold as is, no returns unless grossly misrepresented and buyer pays return shipping. I am not a doll expert but this is what I have observed:
The wig has been replaced. This wig is marked 100% modacrylic fiber 11\" 12\". The wig and pate are Not glued on. The outfit is a newer but appropriately styled outfit. Cute little bonnet, underwear and 1 sock.
It appears some of the body parts were replaced because the hands are a noticeably different color and the arms a little different color than the body, as well. In looking at other sales, arms are one piece, these are movable hands, which could be a variation, I am not sure. Stringing is tight. Coloration is very nice on the bisque face and head.
With blacklight (see closeup photos) it looks like a hairline crack from the top of the head around bottom side back. It wasn’t felt, but can be seen if you look very closely (see closeup, use zoom). Bisque that holds eye mechanism has been repaired.
I was told book price is around $1,200 for this doll without issues.
Don’t let any of this discourage you from this very sweet baby doll, which will make a nice display. This baby doll is really visually appealing and I don’t think you will be disappointed, I just make sure to disclose any and all flaws found.
