Rare early French translation and paraphrases of the Proverbs of Solomon into French by Nicholas Guillebert, a French prelate who lived in the first half of the 17th century. He was the author of this book, Les Proverbes de Salomon Paraphrases (Paris, 1626, 1637), as well as Paraphrase sur l\'Ecclesiaste de Salomon (1627, 1635, 1642): — La Sagesse de Salomon Paraphrasee (1631): — Paraphrases sur les Epitres de S. Paul aux Colosses, Thessaloniens, Timothe et Tite (1635): — Paraphrase de l\'Epitre aux Hebreux et des Epitres Canoniques (ioffer. 1638). Bound in fine French panelled leather with gilt borders and floral corner enhancements in gilt, the spine with gilt compartmental decor and raised bands, with very light rubbing and wear. Marbled pastedowns and gilt page edges. Hinges and joints strong and firm. Unmarked. Illustrated with title vignettes. Handsomely toned with light scattered foxing. Tight binding. French text with some Latin. Measures 5.25” tall x 3” wide. Complete. Good luck!
