A truly fascinating find, this is a RARE version of the King James Bible, printed during a period of turmoil in English history, best known as the Commonwealth Era, an era devoid of the King but ruled by Oliver Cromwell. Thus, this Bible has been deemed one of the rare \'Cromwell Bibles,\' with the imprint suggesting nothing of the King\'s printers. Bound in original leather with stamped borders to the boards, the spine with raised bands, also as shown. Printed with gorgeous illustrated woodcut border to the title page, along with, curiously, the coat of arms of King Charles on the verso. There are also various illustrated borders and devices throughout. Bible textually is 100% complete, lacking only the New Testament title page. It includes the Apocrypha. Textblock is firm- generally in good condition internally ,a few leaves with small stains and chips, some trimming, and contents with some light tone throughout. Title reinforced at the gutter, also no front EP. Signed on the TOC by a Sarah Campbell in 1766, else unmarked. Leather with some light rounding and some rubbing, the hinges and joints intact. Some loss of spine leather at the extremities. Page edges stained black. Measures roughly 6.5\" x 4.25\". A rare piece of English history- & a true gem for any collection. Good with the Android app
