Indenture in vellum. Large. The body measures 9.5\" x 27\". Six seals intact and unopened. Each is suspended from the main document (just under 7\" in length). Beautiful scrawl. Difficult to find these with intact seals.
Etwall & Burnaston - Derbyshire 1685
A Lease leading to a freehold in accordance with the Statute for Transferring Uses into Possession. Given by Robert Wilmott of Osbaston by Derby esq., John Chambers gent., William Chambers gent., William Turner gent., all of Derby; Alexander Waltham the elder and the younger, both of Burton upon Trent, to Robert Burdett of Bramcoate Warks & Henry Dyson of Leicester, gents.; Guardians and Trustees of the person and estate of Miss Anne Harper and infant daughter of Sir John Harpur, Baronet, deceased.
Of all those closes and parcels of inclosed land in Barrowcoate and Burnaston in the Parish of Etwall, Derbyshire.
Sir John Harper had succeeded to the title as 4th Baronet on the early death of his father (aged 36). The family home was the famous Calke Abbey in Derbyshire which Sir John rebuilt extensively at the start of the 18th Century. The title expired in 1924 and the Abbey passed to the National Trust in 1985.
