A rare and important 2 volume selection of the Latin Vulgate version of the Bible, here published and translated into French. Beautifully illustrated with a stunning engraved frontispiece to volume I, as well as illustrated chapter headers showing various scenes of the Bible, and a few illustrative devices throughout as well. Text in French with inclusions of Latin. The Bible contains \"short notes taken from SS. Peres and the best interpreters, for the understanding of the most difficult places: the translation of the pseudo-hebrew by the side of the Vulgate, and the concord of the four evangelists;\" The Concordance at the end of vol III with a separate half title page, as shown. Vol I contains Depuis la Genese jusqu\'aux Pseaumes; Vol III contains Les Macabées, le Nouveau Testament, la Concorde des quatre Evangelistes, les Tables Chronologiques, etc.Folios; bound in original marbled paper covered boards and spine, the spines with paper labels, as shown. Vol I with some losses at the crown of the spine cover, but the binding and hinges remain intact.Each volume measures 9.75\" x 8\" x 3\". Page edges are stained red. Bookplates from the Essex Institute, c1850s, in each volume on the pastedowns in front, else unmarked; leaves with a few instances of foxing, some light toning and a few small waterstains.
