I call this an Admiral\'s button because it looks the part, and very much like examples I have seen before. It is heavy on silver over bronze. Regrettably, it is wavy and the shank missing. It was found on the Thames by a mudlarker a cable tow length from shore. Mudlarking if you are unaware is the sport of spying things in the sand, shell, and mud of the river banks where the tide ebbs and flows as the Thames is a tidal river at London.
Could be a pirate button as it looks romantic with its concentric circles, St. Andrew\'s Cross, hearts, and arrows. I wish I knew for certain its attribution. The expert will spot it immediately. To me, it has that Dutch look to it.
I prefer to sale buttons and let them bring what they bring, but on really rare ones I use fixed price as the expert may not come along before the sale ends. If you know the piece and appreciate its value, make a reasonable offer.
