This is a wonderful document dated 1726, Portsmouth, Rhode Island, where Justice William Sanford has written a letter to the court held at Bristol, Massachusetts, regarding a horse owned by William Almy....Josiah Briggs stating that the mare was attacked by his dogs and not knowing if she would live, he tried to scare her to see her reaction, she tried to move but fell forward....signed Wm Sanford. Letter is 8x11, folds, docketed on back, overall good condition.

William Sanford (1676-1760)served as Town Clerk of Portsmouth from 1717-1751 and was a Justice of the Peace from 1718-1750.William was a member of Society of Friends (Quakers). May 1751 he and his wife Hope Moved to Dartmouth Massachusetts.
