This was first published in 1733 under the title, A Treatise on Carpentry. Elizabeth Harris identifies this as the first comprehensive work on carpentry in English; evidently Helen Park found more copies in eighteenth century America (twenty-seven) than of any other single architectural title. Even George Washington owned a copy (the 1768 edition).Includes many aspects of carpentry such as the building of roofs, bridges, domes, vaults, spires, and stair-building.Engraved frontispiece, (viii), 72 pages, (60) plates, 2 of which are folding. Text is clean, sound and complete. Occasional scattered faint browning and a few small stains, otherwise text and engravings generally clean and crisp, as shown.
