On display is a unique 2 volume set of a 1795 King James Bible printed by Mark and Charles Kerr, printers to His Majestie. It contains the Old Testament in Volume one ending with Psalms. The New Testament contains Proverbs through Revelations. After Revelations is a bound in copy of the Psalms of David printed in Edinburgh, also by Mark and Charles Kerr. Light foxing is present throughout as shown in the pictures above. The cover is a magnificent black cherry, a very rare color for the 1700\'s. It has beautiful delicate gold leaf embossing on the spine along with either volume 1 or 2. The endpapers are unique in that the original endpapers are still present and in such good condition that it preserves the integrity and history of the Bible.

The color is highly unusual as brown or black were always thepreferred color. Occasionally a deep forest green can be but black cherry is both rare and unusual and highly sought after. Both boards and spine are firmly attatched and the books are tight and put together very well. The main Title page as well as the New Testament Title pagearepresent and are shown in the pictures above. Each volume hasbeautiful24 karat gold page edges that are still present albeit gently faded by the centuries.

This is a very unique set as most multi volume sets have not survived the centuries. They have unfortunately been separated with either one or the other being destroyed or lost. It is highly unusual to find them together after such a long period of time. They are a beautiful example of a 1700\'s bible and while not having checked every page it does appear to becomplete. It measures 5 1/4\" x 3\" x 1 1/4\" each and weigh just under 1 pound. They are of course used and do show the expected wear and tear associated with their age.

This is an incredible opportunity to own a piece of history in the form of a Bible printed over 2 centuries ago. In addition the beautiful deep black cherry red color and gold leafing would make a spectacular display.
