Saur was another printer originating from the Germantown Saur printing firm, which has a long history in American printing and the American Revolution (best known for the 1776 Gun Wad Bible). A popular book originally published in Germany and America in 1791, this 1st American edition became quite popular with some sects, Dunkers, Mennonites, etc.This German American hymnal was published without music, as were most hymnals of the time. Bound in well kept original leather, with one of two original clasps. Hinges intact. Binding and text block solid and tight, some soiling and light staining throughout.
