1 pg. letter, approx. 6\" x 7-1/4\", dated at Worcester, Mass.,Dec. 15, 1800, from Ledyard Goodell (signed \"L. G.\"), to his Father, David Goodell at Pomfret, Ct.

Stampless folded letter is addressed to his father, Mr. David Goodell, andwas privately carried outside of the mail and has no postmarks (Worcester is about 32 miles from Pomfret). The name in the address has been crossed out.

Ledyard Goodell, (1781-1854), was born in Pomfret, Ct., the son of David Goodell (1753-1817), and Lovina Sabin Goodell, (1754-1802).

Ledyard writes that his old surtout (a man\'s frock coat) is so worn out that it \"is not much better than none\", and asks his father to send him $5-1/2 to purchase some cloth to have a new one made.

The letter reads:

\"I now write you a few lines by the post. I am not very well myself, having caught a very bad cold. I am very much in want of a great coat, my old surtout has got to be very thin and is not much better than none. We have got some cloth that will turn out for a great coat, about five Dollars & a half. If I could get by any means that sum, I should certainly have me one; and I am certain that my old Surtout will not last but a very short time.

I want to hear from C. Grosvenor. Please to give my duty to Grand Father and respects to all my friends, &c.

Please to write by return of Post.
