1800s Exquisite Indian Silver Hand Engraved Double Handle Sugar Bowl

Presented is a superb quality Indian silver double handled bowl or sugar bowl. This piece dates to around the 1820s-1860s. The bowl is beautifully hand engraved throughout with intricate stylized foliate designs and almost paisley shapes, against a finely textured background. The quality and richness of the engraving is exceptional. The handles are done in the form of snakes, complete with scale texture and cobra \'spectacle\' markings on the heads. The feet are very interesting, done like chicken or bird claws, with a scaled texture. This piece is quite striking and very well made, with a nice feeling of weight. The interior has a rich gold wash.

This piece is in great condition. The details of the engraved designs are nice and crisp. There is some wear to the gold wash on the exterior, which was only ever applied to the underside, feet, handles, finial and rim. The main body of the bowl and the majority of the lid never had a gold wash to begin with. The gold wash of the interior is in great shape. There are no splits, no leaks, no dents, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs.

This piece is stamped on both the lid and the rim of the pot with a French mark \'ET\' for foreign-made and imported items. We have tested this piece with nitric acid and guarantee it is approximately 900 purity silver.

The bowl measures about 7 inches from handle to handle and stands about 5 inches tall.

This piece weighs 493 grams or 17.4 regular ounces.
