[Royal Navy, Naval Pay, Napoleonic Wars] ~ [NAVAL ECONOMY] Naval Economy: Exemplified in Conversations Between a Member of Parliament and the Officers of a Man of War, During a Winter's Cruize; Addressed to the Honorable Members of Both Houses of Parliament, and the Officers of the Royal Navy London. Printed By John Dean....for William Lindsell, 1811.

8vo. [2], iv, 78, 10pp. Recent paper boards. Shaved ink inscription of J.D. Thomson, presumably John Deas Thomson (1763-1838), Accountant-General to the Royal Navy, to title.

A fascinating dialogic examination, between an anonymous member of Parliament, and the officers of an early nineteenth-century Man of War, of the state of Senior Service in the final years of the Napoleonic Wars. Focusing particularly upon the states of existing masts and sails, it promotes the funding and provisioning of improvements in naval equipment whilst also revealing the subtleties of the command structure and and professional expectations of the officer class of the Royal Navy. Copac records two copies of this first edition, at BL and the National Maritime Museum, with OCLC adding NYPL and Irvine Library, University of California.

~ About Antiquates

Established 2007, Antiquates Ltd is a leading British antiquarian bookseller.

We offer a wealth of antiquarian books, specialising in early and hand-press printing - but not excluding all others! Our bias is towards the unusual, the interesting and the important - and we try and offer our customers a varied and frequently changing selection, along with advice on library development and special purchases.

We are proud and active members of the PBFA (Provincial Book Fairs Association) - a professional body of antiquarian booksellers in the United Kingdom, aoffering by their code of practice and exhibiting at several large national and regional book fairs each year.

Based in the heart of the Dorset countryside, outside of the village of Corfe Castle, we travel far and wide to buy, sell and advise on rare books. Though we are not a bookshop, viewings of all books in our stock are possible by appointment.
