One of the more esoteric free franks you’ll see – Francis LeBaronas US Apothecary General! Light AlbanyCDS at left with handstamp “FREE” below the frank; clear frank with lightlytoned vertical file fold, addressed to Major General Peter B. Porter inCongress at Washington. Letter contentfrom November 1815 refers to the “military peace” and indicates that LeBaronwill head for Washington before river closes if he can. LeBaron was the only person to hold the officewith the franking privilege (1813-1821). Woefully undercataloged in ASCC; I’venever seen another example. This coveris ex-Frajola and was featured in his war of 1812 collection. A must for the advanced free frank or War of1812 collection; I dare you to find another one! 😉
