Pair of rare Antique Georgian/Victorian apothecary glass bottles.

One with chemists paper labels - \'Essence Peppermint\' &

\'Sutcliffe & Linsley, 31 Coney St, York.

This pair of antique glass bottle were taken from a damaged apothecary box along with some

other items which I also have listed on including a glass pestle and mortar and balance scales

and weights. One of these bottles has the original label for the chemist which reads

\'Sutcliffe & Linsley, 31 Coney St, York\' and I would estimate that they date from circa 1830-1850.

These hand blown bottles measure approximately 2.5\" tall by 1.5\" wide by 0.75\" deep, with

glass stoppers and although they no longer have any contents, you can still see the residue of

whatever powders they once contained so discretion when handling is advised. There are some

small chips on the rims and finials of the bottles and the stopper in the peppermint bottle

is stuck fast but there is no other damage and the display very nicely.

There are light inclusions and ripples in the glass as you would expect and the pontil on the base

has been very finely ground down. The stoppers have a chamfered finial and fit the bottles neatly

and tightly. It is rare to find such early bottles with the original chemists label still intact and I am

sure it would be possible to research the name and history of \'Sutcliffe & Linsley\'

in order to date the bottles and the chemist more accurately.
