The Pilgrims of the Rhine was originally published at the peak of Bulwer\'s popularity in 1834. By this point he was writing works of varying genres such as poems, satires and histories. The Pilgrims of the Rhine is an anthology of loosely connected short stories.
Edward Bulwer-Lytton, the 1st Baron Lytton, was an English novelist, playwright, poet and politician. He earned a considerable fortune from his bestselling novels and coined many phrases still used today such as \'the pen is mightier than the sword.\'
