The Holy Bible, Containing the Old and New Testaments, etc. Portland: Sanborn & Carter, 1847.
Pocket style, produced with pocket covering and strap, produced a decade or so before the CIVIL WAR. Red leather covers show some light wear with a few nicks, stains and scratches, alsoa tiny tear to the slip tab, as shown. Gilt rule and title on spine; page edges also gilt. Pocket Bible, about 3\" wide,4.75\" tall. Pages all intact, in great shape but with some leaves browned, a few instances of foxing and damp staining, with minor rounding/wear to edges, also at the rear lacking all after 1st Epistle of John, Chapter V. Illustrated frontis and engraved title page in front. Unmarked. A decent specimen in a style usually seen on soldiers in the Civil War, this is an ideal gift for a Civil War buff, or reenactor as well. Good luck:)
