Listed items will not be marked down during the listing duration.In 1884, the Arcadian pattern was introduced by 1847 Rogers Brothers. This pattern is multi-motif; the design is a rectangular cartouche with a classical figure standing inside. The figures vary with the size of the handle. Each is a figure proportioned to the overall size of the piece, which varies from a salt spoon to a large soup ladle. The die work and detail, even on the smaller pieces, is amazing, as can be seen in the picture. The complexity of producing so many different pieces, and the fact that it doesn\'t look like a set until everything is put together on one table, caused Arcadian to be discontinued in the early 1890s. This is a set that was, according to standard references, produced without any matching dinner knives. If there are any dinner knives in Arcadian out there, I have never seen them. At the time, people often had a separate set of knives such as pearl handle knives, which would go nicely with any table service. The bouillon ladle is the piece that is used for serving bouillon into the small two-handled cup with underplate. Bouillon is a clear broth with no additional elements in it. Bouillon is a nourishing and healthy food, but it always looks like something from the hospital\'s soft diet program. While easy to make, bouillon rarely ever excites anyone. Today, bouillon ladles are ideal for serving small amounts of soup, and tend to fit modern sized pieces of china better than the larger older soup ladles. The bouillon ladle is a very handy item, and can always be used for its intended purpose. When the guests look underwhelmed, tell them how good bouillon is for their nails and hair. The bouillon soup ladle offered here measures about 9 1/2”. This is not a piece of new silver. It shows the patina of 130 years of careful use. There are the light scratches which constitute normal patina. There is no monogram. Silver is softly lustrous. There is no silver loss. The pattern is crisp and clear.
