This is an 1858 Holy Bible, containing the Old and New Testaments out of the original tongues; and with the former translations diligently compared and revised (American Bible Society, New York, 1858).
This book is bound in dark brown leather with a gilt decoration to the front and back covers. The spine is gilt decorated and lettered and has five raised bands. All three text edges are gilt.
This bible measures 8\"L x 5.5\"W x 2\"D and has 1284 pages. The name of the owner and date is written on inside cover of the book. Otherwise clean and unmarked. Very first blank page of bible has separated from book. Otherwise the binding is sound.
This bible was the source for the Pony Express Bibles printed in 1858. It is NOT a Pony Express Bible. The book was appraised by a certified appraiser on May 30, 2016 and valued at $325.00. The appraiser stated the bible is inexcellent condition for its age.
During my research of this bible I found only one book exactly like this bookat Cornell University to be viewed online. I have not seen one like itanywhere else. Please see Photos. Thanks for looking!
