1860's Civil War Union Officer In Uniform Albumen Cdv Photograph / Photo #2 For Sale
Rare, original, 1860's, CDV Photograph of an unidentified, Union Civil War Officer. This outstanding, period CDV Photograph measures approx. 2 1/8” by 3 3/8” and is mounted on its original, square corner CDV Card Mount (overall size of card mount is 2 1/2" by 4"). The CDV carries the mark of the photographers - Troxell & Brother of St. Louis, Missouri - on the reverse.
The Image is a wonderfully full figure portrait of an unidentified Union Officer wearing a 3/4 length frock coat, sash, gauntlets and sword rig with what appears to be a staff officer's sword in his left hand. His left hand rests on the hilt of his sword and he strikes the viewer as a serious and imposing figure.
The Officer's shoulder straps are those of a Major or Lieutenant Colonel. Unfortunately, the Officer is not identified in any other way. He appears to be a Staff Officer and the CDV came to us with a small group of identified and unidentified Civil War Officer CDV mostly from the Department of the Missouri. We have provided a number of close-up images of the officer, his belt plate and his insignia (although these are likely not much help) and would greatly appreciate any information regarding his identity, service and/or rank.
This rare and wonderful, albumen, CDV Portrait Photograph is in very good to excellent condition exhibiting sharp focus, strong contrast and rich tonality. Both the Photo and the Card Mount are clean and crisp with light edge wear only to the mount.
A rare and very attractive, 1860's Albumen CDV Portrait Photograph of a Union Civil War Officer and a fantastic addition to any collection!!
