1860s Stevengraph Style Silk Picture of Young Queen Victoria Caldicott & Barton:

A very early (1860s) silk weaving made by the Coventry weavers, Caldicott and Barton. Probably made for the Great Exhibition. Woven in the same style as a Stevengraph but some 20 years before Thomas Stevens was producing coloured silk woven portraits. The picture depicts theyoungQueen Victoria surrounded by the national flower symbols of the UK - Rose for England, Thistle for Scotland, Clover for Ireland etc. Condition: Generally good good colour but there is a tear (flaw) in the silk horizontally at the level of the young Queen\'s chest. Mounted in a modern mount an d cellophane wrapped. Size: Silk size 3.5 x 6.5 inches (approx) Mount size 8.5 x 12 inches
