1861 LEAVE of ABSENCE - MAJ. COCHRAN, 3d REGIMENT, VERMONT VOLUNTEERSHead Quarters, Div of the Potomac - Special Orders This is a rare hand written Special Orders letter (#28) from Headquarters, Division of the Potomac dated August 15th, 1861, granting a leave of absence for Major W.W. Cochran of the 3d Regiment, Vermont Volunteers, having tendered his resignation. It is signed by the Assistant Adjutant General, J. Williams for Maj. Gen. McClellan. Letter is 7 3/4\" x 9 5/8\" on a piece of folded lined paper, and the paper has a small Congressional blind stamp upper left. It has two folds with two tears from the edges along one of the folds, also a couple of very light stains. This is part of a box lot of early paper material, much from the 18th century along with military papers from theCivil War era, that relates to the Cochran family, who lived in Hillsborough County, New Hampshire and Vermont, all of which I will be listing this winter starting with this batch. This lot was purchased in Florida about 30 years ago after the family had moved south from New England. Shipping is $3.00 First Class mail within the US, and any insurance coverage is at the buyer\'s option and expense (required on most breakable items). There is a 14 day money back inspection period, and email for more information and payment details. Thank you. _gsrx_vers_454 (GS 6.3 (454))
