1863 Patriotic Civil War Token. Lightly circulated. Civil War Tokens were produced between 1862 & 1864 because of the severe shortage of coins during the war. They became illegal after U.S. Congress passed a law on April 2, 1864 prohibiting there use. Obverse reads FIRST IN WAR, FIRST IN PEACE with monument of George Washington riding a horse.
