Description

Up for offer is a very nice piece of history - a life insurance policy from 1864!The policy is drawn from the MutualBenefit Life Insurance Company from thestate of NewJersey, and the form isdated 1863. It is a policy taken on Mr. Joseph Richards, takenout by his wife MaryRichards for $1,000.00! It is signed April 18, 1864.

What is really interesting about this one (and I haven\'t personally seen one this old) is that it lists his travel restrictions in that he is not allowed to travel to the South\"... or without such previous consentvisit those parts of the United States which lie south of the the southern line ofNorth Carolina, Tennessee, or west of the Mississippi River, except in the settled regions of the States of Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, and Minnesota, north of the 38th degree of North Latitude, east of the 100th degree of West longitude . . .\"!!!

Condition: It is very nice condition for a document this old - it was framed with an acid-free backing that helped preserve it. It has slightly darkened with age, and has a uniform slight rippling due to age, but I do not think that it is rippled due to exposure to moisture at all. There are areas of foxing and slight staining mostly to the outer blank borders, and it\'s original fold lines are still present. Writing is crisp and clear. There is small square area of paper loss that was neatly trimmed from the upper left corner of the document, and there is a small circular area of paper loss to the right side at the fold line (typical of documents of this time.) It is two paged, with the reverse page being the title page - there are a few tears on that page (pictured) but not on the main document itself (which will look and display quite well.

Please see pics for best description of this excellentpiece, and feel free to ask any questions that you may have.

As always, we here at Ozark nation are more than happy to ship internationally - please contact me if you are interested andplease see exclusions.
