This is an authentic official Special Order #332, dated October 4th, 1864, from the War Department, Adjutant General's Office, Washington. The Order called for thehonorable discharge due to"physicaldisability" of 1st Lieutenant A. H. Mitchell of the 105th Pennsylvania Volunteers by order of the War Department.Lt. Mitchell is notable in that he captured the flag of the 18th North Carolina Regiment in a clash on May 12, 1864, near Spottsyvania.Mitchell was wounded on that day.The flag was returned to North Carolina with the general return of flags in 1905.The document is in good condition other than age-toning/staining & folds/creases, but no tears or holes. Someone haswrittenlightly at bottom left in red ink "Army of Potamac" and circled"Dup".This is a collectible document with real historicalvalue. .
