1865, Color Lithograph “Captain Cook Taking Possession of the Australian Continent on Behalf of the British Crown, A.D. 1770,” After the painting by Gilfillan, Choice Extremely Fine.
This beautiful and vibrant color lithograph measures 20.25” x 16”. This “Supplement to the Illustrated Melbourne Post, December, 1865,” illustrates Captain James Cook claiming the Eastern seaboard of the continent of Australia for the British Crown. This litho is “From a painting by [Artist John Alexander] Gillifan, in the possession of the Royal Society of Victoria.” This rare Print shows normal light even tone, and is overall in choice condition for display.
