Rare first edition of \"Tactics for Knights Templar\" authored by G. Chase and published in 1865. This is a rare first edition of a unique book but, the personal story behind this book is perhaps its\' most valuable quality. This book was presented to Horace Chase by the Trinity Commandery on December 27, 1865. Horace Chase (1788-1875) was a unique and interesting man who was involved with the Masonic community for the last 60 years of his life. His many Masonic achievements included; Grand Master \"Blazing Star Lodge\", he was a Knight Templar and, most significantly, there were 2 Masonic bodies named for him during his lifetime. The \"Horace Chase Lodge No. 72\" was approved in 1861 when Mr. Chase was 72, it\'s still in operation today, and it is the only Lodge in New Hampshire that was named for a living person. In 1862 the \"Horace Chase Council No. 4 - Royal and Select Masters\" was chartered in Concord and still operates today. Horace Chase was a much beloved member of the New Hampshire Masonic community and the presentation of this book was an expression of respect and admiration from his Lodge brothers. (Books were precious items in the years immediately following the Civil War.) I can\'t post web site addresses in an ad but, there are several excellent web sites that can provide more in-depth information about Horace Chase for those who may be interested. This rare book is in wonderful antique condition; there are no loose or missing pages, all of the pages are tight to the spine, the loop closure is still securely attached to the cover, there\'s some age wear to the surface of the leather binding including bumping to the corners and scuffs, there\'s some light age wear to the gilding, other than the inscription there are no pen or pencil marks, there\'s some light age tanning to the pages but the printing and illustrations are still bold and clear, and gloves were worn during the handling of this antique book (see photos). This 149 year old antique book has been kept in a smoke free Environment since it\'s been in my possession, I can\'t say how it was stored prior to that.
