1867-1883 Shield Nickel 5 Cent Piece- Cracked Planchet, Metal Detector Find?:

This coin has a unique surface with several cracks on both sides of the planchet, as if it were buried for decades and dug up by a metal detector. The shield is partially outlined, with the cross and one of the arrows decipherable and the date is no longer visible (though this is the no rays variety). Nearly all of the lettering can be read on the reverse and all of the stars are visible. The coin is lighter in color with porous/corroded surfaces, but sits flat on a surface.
