2c and 6c Banknotes and part of 3c Washington (latter stamp has been largely removed but was clearly present at one time) pay 8 cent registry rate tocover addressed to Hon. Jefferson Davis in Memphis Tennessee. Davis was, of course, the former President of the Confederate States of America. In 1869, he lived in Memphis and was President of the Carolina Life Insurance Company.The 8 cent registry rate was in effect from January 1 1874 to September 30 1875, dating this cover to that period. A very short-term registration rate. Manuscript registry marking on face. Corner card of Southern Artificial Stone Company Jacksonville Florida crossed out, return to John C. Brair (or Blair). Docketing at right \"Brair for statement of his services.\" Light paper clip stain at right, ink stain on back, unevenly opened at left.
