Antique Sterling Silver open face Pocket Watch, Hallmarked Chester 1878. The watch was made by Waltham in the U.S.A for W.H. Allen Jewelers, Brisbane Street Launceston Tasmania. Also lightly engraved inside the back of the case is J Harcourt Smith Launceston. After a google search i find that this watch belonged to James Harcourt Smith who was a Government Geologist and Inspector of Mines, born 1864 and died 1899 aged only 34. The watch has been recently serviced and keeps good time. The winding and setting of the time is done by key (supplied) through the two holes in the back.
