Thisstunning footed covered vegetable bowl /tureen made byDOULTON,Longton, StaffordshireEngland in famousAsiatic Pheasants pattern. This piece was probably made in the late 1800\'s

Asiatic Pheasant was a design first made in England in 1822. It was copied by many different Staffordshire pottery companies. Although it was most popular during the reign of Queen Victoria, it remains popular today. With the Industrial age now dawned ordinary people gained access to what had been the preserve of the wealthy and what they wanted was a pattern that was clean light and above all affordable. \"Asiatic Pheasants\" took pride of place on the kitchen dresser, the cleanness and lightness of the pattern setting off the oak and mahogany and covering the rude pine boarding of the rack.

Thepatterndepicts pheasants and butterflies amongst a bouquet of flowers. Asiatic Pheasants is one of the most popular transferware patterns ever produced.

The tureen is fullyback stamped.

The tureen is about 10\" long with the handles,7 3/4\" wide and 5\" high to the handle of the lid.

This item is in excellent condition. Hard to believe it is over 110 years old. No chips or cracks. Very minimal crazing. It has some speckled marks on the glaze that are most likely done during manufacturing and some dark spots. This is very common with early porcelain.

The tureen is great example for Victorian china and would make a memorable gift.

It is a very rare piece. There was no other tureen ofAsiatic Pheasants patternfor sale last few years anddefinitelythere is no other one for sale now.

I few more pieces of this rare pattern, please inquire about combined shipping for best price.

This is a piece of history that everyone will be proud to have.

The Doulton company started as a partnership with Watts in S.E.London producing mainly saltglazed stonewares and terra cottas at the beginning of the C19th.

With the flotation as a Limited Company in 1882 both the Burslem Works and the Lambeth works traded under the same Banner, although each factory continued its traditional ceramic production.

The Lambeth works established a new and important reputation when they introduced their highly innovative decorative wares in stoneware after 1870.

In Burslem domestic earthenwares and porcelains were expanded to include chinas after 1884

The production of \"Asiatic Pheasants\" wares would appear to be between 1882 to 1902
