$32.00
Scarce original trade card for the Trick Pony mechanical bank, made by the Shepard Hardware Company of Buffalo, New York, and jobbed by Selchow & Righter, New York City, 1880s, color lithograph and engraving on cardstock, approx. 4-7/8\" x 3\". Slight trimming to edges (affecting margins only; rule border still visible), and mild toning to text side, otherwise very good condition overall.
The front of the card depicts the bank on a cloth-covered table in a lavishly appointed parlor setting. The advertising text reads, in part: \" \'Trick Pony\' toy savings bank . . . Full size 8 inches high, 7-1/2 inches long . . . Made wholly of iron . . . Price $1.00 each . . . Highly finished in brilliant colors . . . The pony receives the coin in his mouth and deposits it in the manger.--a trap door at the bottom of the latter opens at the same time and then closes over the coin. . . .\"
Quite uncommon.
