ThisFebruary 1887 issue of The Graphic is full of interesting and attractive views of the world. The gem here is thepagetitled \"With the China Squadron in the East--At Hongkong.\" Thepanoramic view across the bottom is a \"Panorama of the Town of Victoria,Hongkong, as Seen From the Harbour.\" About 35 prominent buildings,landmarks, and businesses are labelled on the image and beneath it. The newspaperincludes adescriptivearticle on an earlierpage titled \"The City of Victoria, Hongkong.\" The view of Hong Kong is regarded by many as theearliest published imageof thecity\'sskyline.

Overalldouble page size is about 16 by 24 1/2 inches. The city panorama is 5 by 22inches, not including the titles and labels below the image.

Conditionisvery good, as nice asample as I\'ve ever seen of this extraordinary early view of Hong Kong.There is a vertical center fold (asissued) and just a touch of attractive age toning. The paper is sturdy and supple. Text on the reverse is barely visible and does not detract. The issue was part of a bound volume, so there is slight binding residue at the edge of the issue, but there are no binding holes in the Hong Kong image page. The page prior to the Hong Kong print is slightly adhered to the back of the left side of the Hong Kong page, probably also done when the volume was bound to prevent pages from falling out of the book. This is typical of bound collections like this one, does not detract, and would not interfere with framing the print.

Thisis an original antique woodcut engraving, not a reprint.Since I last handled one of these prints about five years ago, I have seen only one other example offered on ,at $2000.Outside of galleries and private collections, there aren\'t many of these left.
